Suraj Randiv, An IPL player is now a Bus Driver
Many people believe that if you play one IPL, you can be a billionaire, and you can build a good career. However, this is not so. A cricketer even after playing IPL, he is not a millionaire, and in a twist of fate, the cricketer is now a bus driver.
He once played the World Cup for the country. In the IPL, he represented Chennai Super Kings under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni — today, he works as a bus driver. The cricketer is Suraj Randiv of the Sri Lankan national team.

He played eight matches for CSK in the IPL. He was also seen in the 2021 IPL. Randiv received 36.8 lakh rupees while playing for Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, he played 50 international matches in the Sri Lanka jersey. Out of them, Suraj played 12 Tests, 31 ODIs, and 7 T20 matches.
Suraj Randiv, the 38-year-old off-spinner, once found himself at the center of a major cricket controversy. In 2010, during a match against India, Randiv intentionally bowled a no-ball to Virender Sehwag who was on the verge of scoring a century—resulting in India claiming victory. The incident stirred strong reactions, leading to a one-match suspension by Sri Lanka Cricket and a formal apology to Sehwag from Randiv.
Despite being initially left out of Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2011 Cricket World Cup, his fate gave him another chance. He was later brought in as a replacement for the injured Angelo Mathews and went on to play in the World Cup Final.
Today, Randiv’s life looks very different. He is seen in the streets of Melbourne in a driver’s seat. While his career took an unexpected turn, cricket fans still remember him and the role he played in Sri Lanka’s cricketing team.
Randiv’s journey from international cricketer to everyday life in a new country is a reminder of how life after sports can take many surprising paths.
