Block Websites In Chrome
If you are having a lad in your home and you are using Chrome, you must be wondering how to block certain websites in Google Chrome. Blocking websites means you will not be able to access those websites either by entering the website address on the address bar, clicking on the bookmark tab, or by Google search. Blocking some websites indeed has some great advantages, especially restricting addictive sites like Facebook, YouTube, etc to avoid any procrastination.
While Google Chrome has always been the preferred browser on both desktop and Android platforms when compared to the features chrome lags behind some of the important inbuild features that most browsers like Firefox and Opera do provide and in this regard too chrome lacks the build-in feature that allows you to block specific websites.
However, by using some of the extensions and add-ons you can block websites you want. Those extensions and add-ons can be installed from the Chrome web store. Here are some of those:
To access the Chrome web store Click here
- Block Site
Open the Chrome web store search for Block site and hit the Add to Chrome
- StayFocusd
Editing the host file in Windows
If you don’t want to use any third-party software, there is another way to block websites irrespective of the browser you are using. Follow the steps:
Step 1:
Go to C:\Windows\Systems32\Drivers\etc or press the windows button and R (which will open the run dialog box) type drivers and click ok. Open the folder “etc”.
Step 2:
Right-click on the “hosts” file and open it with notepad. Now add the below line with the URL of the website you want to block at the end of the notepad file.
127.0.0.1 yahoo.com
Step 3:
Save the host file. If you are unable to save the host file just click on save as and save the file on a different destination with the same name. Now navigate to the path where you have saved the file click on cut and just paste on the following path C:\Windows\Systems32\Drivers\etc. This will replace the original host file with the new one which you were unable to save previously.
Now check by opening the website on any of the browsers installed on your laptop.
