LPG Gas Price has been hiked by ₹50 Per Cylinder for All Users: Here’s an update
In a fresh development that could affect household budgets for the common people, the price of domestic cooking gas (LPG) has been increased by ₹50 per cylinder. Union Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced the hike on Monday, stating that it applies to both subsidized and non-subsidized users across the country.
How much do you have to pay for the LPG now?
For Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries — low-income households who receive LPG connections at no cost — the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi will now be ₹553, up from ₹503.
For general customers, the new price stands at ₹853 per cylinder.
It’s worth noting that LPG prices may differ slightly across states due to local taxes and levies.
When was the Last LPG Gas Price Changed?
The last major revision in domestic LPG prices happened back in March 2024, when the rates were reduced by ₹100. This recent hike will effect many households.
What About Commercial LPG Gas Prices?
Interestingly, just last week, the government reduced commercial LPG prices by ₹41. This is a big relief for businesses like hotels and restaurants, which rely on LPGs for daily uses.
Other Fuel-Related Updates
The government has also announced an increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel earlier this morning from ₹10 to ₹13 per litre for petrol, and from ₹8 to ₹10 for diesel but as of now consumers won’t feel the pinch. The oil marketing companies will absorb the additional cost, and the retail prices at the petrol pump will remain unchanged.
According to the official notification, the new excise rates will take effect from April 8, 2025.
Conclusion
If you use LPG for cooking, you’ll now be paying a bit more each month, especially if you aren’t part of a subsidy program. While the Ujjwala scheme still keeps LPG affordable for many low-income families, the price hike will still be felt across millions of households. On the brighter side, fuel pump prices remain the same — at least for now.
